About

PE instruction can occur in a variety of spaces but is best accommodated outdoors, in multipurpose gyms, and in specialized PE labs, such as weights, wrestling or cardio. PE spaces should have space for instructors, contain ample storage for equipment and student daily items, access to restrooms and water fountains, and large areas to move, run, play, and stretch. PE may utilize programmed outdoor space but shall be usable in all-weather scenarios. If weather conditions do not allow for outdoor PE, conditioned interior space shall be provided.

Storage

PE spaces should contain storage for equipment and student daily items as well as touch-down space for PE Instructors.  These areas should be securable and separate from Athletic Team storage.  Individual storage is needed for each PE lab. Outdoor sheds are needed at field locations to accommodate additional outdoor PE and team equipment.

Large Areas

It is essential that PE spaces have large areas to move, run, play, and stretch. This can be indoors for various activities and poor weather days. Space should be provided with whiteboards, voice enhancement and sound systems, and other instructional technology, such as video projection.

Outdoor Space

Shaded or covered courts as well as outdoor fields shall be provided for a variety of sports and after school programs. These should facilitate positive and respectful athletic environments.
