About

When possible, buildings will have a single point of entry or be accessed by card readers. A secure entry vestibule will be provided at the main entry of the school for outside visitors. Spaces should have transparency to hallways and gathering areas for passive supervision of common areas. Buildings should ideally be organized in ways that don't obstruct sightlines and restroom entries should be in view of larger open areas.

Variations in Glass

Where required, security glass will be used for privacy. This can include windows that can change from transparent to opaque with the flip of a switch.  Impact resistant glazing can also improve safety, not only at main entrances but in select rooms as well.

Passive Supervision

Campus buildings should be organized in a way that reduces blind spots and allows for passive supervision of large areas.  This can include bathrooms with open shared areas that are easier to supervise.

Clear Wayfinding

Buildings shall prioritize interior circulation and clear lines of sight for students, faculty, visitors, and emergency responders.

Durable Materials

Building materials should reflect durability and cleanability thus reducing any effects of vandalism or wear and tear.
